Austin is a city of extraordinary diversity — not just in its culture and cuisine, but in its landscapes, architectural styles, soil conditions, tree species, and microclimates. From the limestone Hill Country terrain of Bee Cave and Lakeway to the towering live oaks of Tarrytown, from the modern luxury developments of Steiner Ranch to the historic craftsman homes of Clarksville — every part of Austin presents unique challenges and opportunities for outdoor lighting design.

This is why local expertise isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential.

Austin’s Trees Are Unlike Anywhere Else

Central Texas is home to some of the most magnificent trees in the South — sprawling live oaks, towering pecan trees, dramatic cedar elms, and in the Hill Country, rugged Texas mountain laurels and madrones. Each species responds differently to uplighting. Live oaks, with their dense horizontal canopy and deeply textured bark, create extraordinary shadows when lit from below with a narrow-beam fixture. Cedar elms, with their feathery foliage, are best illuminated with a wider spread that lets the leaf texture show through.

After 15+ years of lighting Austin’s trees, we know exactly which fixture angles, beam spreads, and color temperatures bring out the best in each species. A national franchise or out-of-area contractor simply doesn’t have this knowledge.

Austin’s Architecture Is Diverse

West Lake Hills estates might feature Hill Country limestone and cedar, while a Tarrytown bungalow calls for warm, intimate accent lighting that complements its craftsman character. A modern Barton Creek home with clean lines and floor-to-ceiling glass needs a completely different approach than a traditional Rollingwood property with formal gardens. We’ve designed lighting for all of these — and the accumulated experience makes every new design better.

The Austin Climate Demands the Right Fixtures

Austin’s combination of heat, UV exposure, and periodic heavy rain is brutal on outdoor fixtures. We’ve seen aluminum fixtures corrode and fail within 3–4 years of Austin-area installation. Composite fixtures crack from thermal expansion. Only solid brass and copper fixtures hold up reliably over the long term in our climate — which is why Majestic installs nothing else.
