Central Texas is blessed with some of the most beautiful trees in North America — and nowhere is this more evident than in the established neighborhoods of Round Rock, where mature live oaks, pecan trees, and cedar elms create an extraordinary natural canopy. These trees are landscape assets of enormous value — and they deserve to be celebrated after dark. Here’s how Majestic Outdoor Lighting Design approaches tree lighting in Round Rock and throughout the Austin area.

Live Oak Uplighting: The Crown Jewel

The live oak is the defining tree of Central Texas — spreading, sculptural, and magnificent at any scale. Uplighting a mature live oak is one of the most dramatic things you can do with outdoor lighting. A narrow-beam fixture placed at the trunk base and aimed up into the canopy creates extraordinary layered shadows and illuminated leaf clusters that make the tree look like a work of art.

The key variables are beam spread, fixture position, and color temperature. For live oaks, we typically use a 15–20 degree beam spread, position fixtures 18–24 inches from the trunk for a good trunk/canopy balance, and use 2700K warm white LEDs that render the bark and foliage in their most flattering tones.

Pecan Trees: Uplighting the Giants

Mature pecan trees can reach 70–100 feet in height with canopy spreads of 40–60 feet — genuinely massive specimens that require a different approach than oaks. For very large pecans, we often use multiple fixtures placed at different angles around the base, with beam spreads of 30–40 degrees to illuminate the full canopy spread. The effect is spectacular — a tree that looks like it’s lit from within.

Practical Considerations for Round Rock

Round Rock’s established neighborhoods often have irrigation systems with zones that run close to tree drip lines — an important consideration during installation. Our hand-trenching approach ensures we locate and avoid irrigation lines during every wire run, protecting both your irrigation system and the trees’ root zones.
