Placing fixtures at the base of a live oak and aiming upward highlights the trunk’s texture and casts dramatic shadows through the branches above. On especially large, old oaks, we often use multiple fixtures at different angles to bring out the full scale of the tree.
Moonlighting From Within the Canopy
For live oaks with high, wide canopies, mounting a downward-facing fixture within the branches creates a soft moonlighting effect on the ground below — dappled light and shadow that looks completely natural, as though the moon itself were shining through the leaves.
