After 15+ years of designing and installing landscape lighting across Austin, TX, we’ve heard a lot of questions. Some come up again and again — and they’re great questions, because the answers reveal just how different professional outdoor lighting is from what most homeowners imagine. Here are the five questions we hear most often.

1. “How much does outdoor lighting cost in Austin?”

The most common question, and the honest answer is: it depends. A typical residential system in Austin ranges from about $2,500 for a modest pathway and accent package to $15,000 or more for a comprehensive estate design with 40+ fixtures covering trees, architecture, pathways, pool, and outdoor living areas.

What determines the price? Primarily fixture count, property size, and fixture quality. At Majestic, we use exclusively solid brass fixtures — which cost more upfront than the aluminum alternatives, but last 20–30 years versus 3–5 years. Over a decade, solid brass is dramatically more cost-effective.

2. “Will installation tear up my yard?”

Not with us. We hand-trench every wire run rather than using a trenching machine. This means no damage to your lawn, garden beds, irrigation lines, or tree roots. Any minor disturbance to grass fills back in within a week or two. Many of our clients are genuinely surprised by how clean and undisturbed their yard looks the day after installation.

3. “Do I have to turn the lights on and off every night?”

Absolutely not. Every system we install is programmed to come on automatically at dusk and turn off at whatever time you specify. Many of our transformers also offer smartphone control — you can adjust schedules, dim specific zones, or turn individual areas on and off right from your phone. Set it once and enjoy it every night.

4. “Why not just get the lights from Home Depot?”

We get asked this a lot, and it’s a fair question. The short answer: the difference between retail landscape lighting and professional-grade systems is enormous. Big-box store fixtures are made from aluminum or plastic, use lower-quality LEDs, and are not designed for permanent buried installation. Most fail within 2–4 years. A Majestic system is designed and installed to function beautifully for 20 to 30 years. And a professional design does something no retail kit can — it makes your home look intentionally illuminated, not just “lit up.”

5. “How long does installation take?”

Most residential installations in Austin are completed in a single day. Larger estate projects with 50+ fixtures may take two days. We work efficiently, clean up completely, and don’t leave until you’ve done a full night walk-through with us to confirm every fixture is perfectly placed and the system is programmed exactly the way you want it.
